Aloha Editor License

Aloha Editor is meant to be of benefit to both free open source as well as commercial software developers. It should be able to sustain continous development by itself and thus help all stakeholders profiting from the developments to come. Therefore we adopted a dual licensing approach for Aloha Editor.

Read the license FAQ for license adoption

Open Source License.

We want to keep this work open to all now and in future. The Open Source version of this great software is released under the terms of GPLv2 or later license. That means you are allowed to use the terms of later versions of the GPL (like GPLv3) as well. Generally Public Licenses are intended to guarantee your freedom to share and change all versions of a program ensuring its existence as free software for all its users. With a FOSS license exception you may be allowed to redistribute Aloha Editor along with other open source projects that are MIT, BSD or similar licensed. For example: Locomotive CMS is MIT, Aloha Editor is GPLv2, with the FOSS exception, Locomotive CMS can distribute Aloha Editor and remain MIT, but Aloha Editor will remain GPLv2. Contact us to get a FOSS license exception!

Language files License.

All language translations distributed along with the project Aloha Editor you can distribute, remix, tweak, and build upon your work, even commercially, as long as they credit the creator for the original creation. All contributed translations are contributed under the terms of Creative Commons Attribution License.

If you are a commercial software developer and you want to release your software under a different license than GPLv2 or later licenses, you may purchase commercial licenses from Gentics Software GmbH. By purchasing commercial licenses, Gentics offers you the commercial distribution of Aloha Editor, which gives you the freedom to choose different ways of licensing and get professional support from Aloha Editor developers.
